cheesehead bolts

I've just discovered that I have "cheesehead" bolts and not "torx" bolts connecting the rear axle to the transaxle in a 1980 porsche 924. I have 2 questions: 1)what's the best way to remove these bolts if the head is stripped?
2) Where can I buy a cheesehead socket and how do I know what size it is? (Yes, I stripped several myself, but most of them were stripped from the previous owner!)

Just a note...I tried a "special" porsche forum with this question 5 days ago with no response yet! I should've known to start here at BCF where I've always received sound advice! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Any input appreciated.

John has it well and truly nailed... Porsche used a "DoubleTorx" kinda fastener to keep the "riff-raff" out. The heads are the opposite of a twelve-point "outie" bolthead. Wurth, Robinair and S-K have the proper tool. The CV joint bolts for the 930's is the same IIRC. Check with NAPA too! They supplied the 3/8" drive bits I've used to replace the Wurth (3x$!!!) tool I initially purchased for the job.


EDIT: Getting stripped ones out is a game of patience and ViseGrips. Good luck. This is usually an aggrovating experience.
 
Thanks John and Dr. I'll check on the triple square tool. My patience and vise grips have already worn out their welcome with these bolts. I'm on vacation for a few days, so maybe I'll return with some renewed energy and healed knuckles!
 
If they're factory or dealership installed, they've been "set" at the threaded ends with Loctite... some ~gentle~ heat can make them release more easily. A heat gun can be your friend... just try not to cook the joints!
