As some of you know I've been having intermitent problems with the starter getting caught in the flywheel on the 61 A....After my wife had to recruit some shoppers at the local grocery store to help her get it unstuck I figured I'd better fix it.....I was just about to remove the starter to inspect it when....I noticed the main ground strap looked a little rusty(especially around the mounting bolts)....Removed it, cleaned it up....Starter now has alot more power and retracts itself properly, plus the engine seams a little more peppy....must have been affecting the strength of the spark the car was getting.....So take this as a reminder, next time your puttering around under the hood.....take a look at the ground strap, for what it takes to clean it up, it just might make a difference.
I had to pickup one of those electric fireplaces(wanted a gas unit for the master bedroom, but after spending 2 hours lighting the pilot light in the basement fireplace, i think we'll give electric a try /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) Since I am still spinning my wheels looking for a pickup truck, and the caddy is useless as a stuff hauler I had to use the MGA....removed the seat and stood the box up on the floor...Thing as HEAVY but the car had no problems on the 15 minute run home.......CHECK THOSE GROUND STRAPS!
 
I bet I have thought of that darn ground strap 50 times as I consider what needs to be done when putting Miss Agatha back. I'll prob still forget.

Jack, if you forget the one from the clutch slave cylinder bolt to the "frame", the throttle cable will get red hot very quickly!

I know...and I am on it....One turned up last night....everything I am looking for, good price, plus air bag suspension(I *think* thats ok with me)....ony it was a 5spd /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif...had it been an auto I'd be down there giving him a deposit right now..........oh well, keep looking i guess...

It's safe to say that a good 90 percent of newer trucks are automatics. Safe to say about most new cars as well if not higher as far as the US is concerned. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yea understand the towing part. Auto is better.
 
I'd feel weird shifting a truck....It only feels right in an LBC, anything else is just to big and unresponsive....If I do any towing it's only gunna be LBC's...So I don't think there will be a problem..
 
I used to drive a Mack dumpster truck by day and a Datsun 2000 by night. They both had 5 speed transmissions. If you missed a shift (i.e. 1st to 3rd) the Datsun didn't care, but the Mack just slowed down and stopped. On the Mack you only used the clutch to start and stop. Driving all day double clutching I tended to forget to use the clutch when stopping at a light. People sure looked at you as you stalled out the diesel engine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If you plan on towing, automatic is the only way to go!
