This is an "anticipatory response" to those who may question my claim that I hold the Austin Healey track record for the fastest lap at Road America.
On September 22, 2002 I won the all Austin Healey race (50th Anniversary) and recorded the fastest lap time of 1:43.761, beating the previous track record held by Phil Coombs for many years.
I know this is braggin' but it's also my bona fides.

+1

I sure regret not having been in a position to attend any of the 1990 Healey Challenge races. Unlikely to see a repeat of that kind of history being made!

Did you mean 2:43? NO WAY did you do 1:43 on a 4 mile track!(140mph average speed) 2:43 in a Healey is still very impressive!

I sent some old magazine articles to www.healey6.com for John to post and he has them all posted. (check his NEW "Competition" link), There's a 1961 article about 100-6 tuning for performance and about cam grinds and the latter article being a dyno of the '61 article. There's interesting info about the grinds for the cams and that they were going to be inventoried by DMH.

Also, there's a closely linked two-part article about the 100 and tuning with American engine parts.

I'm still finding old mag articles from my attic storage!

Torque is great, but I will take HP any day ! Why aren't you all running diesels ? 200hp and 700 lb ft of torque ! I know they are coming out with some diesels to compete now, but I will take HP anyday !

BMW's current 3.0 Litre diesel is 300bhp/425Lb-ft (at which RPMs escapes me). I was interested (because of the torque  ) but I couldn't get my wife past the thought of "gassing" up at truckstops!

We "settled" for this 3.0 gasoline engine instead (300bhp/300Lb-ft)...

Oooooops! Good eye there Tim K. That lap time at Road America was actually 2:43.761 not 1:43.761 as you correctly pointed out. The time sheet for that race says that my average speed on that lap was 87.933 MPH. I only do 140 MPH on the front straight.
I was hoping to best my time in 2005 when we had that Aussie/American challenge. Unfortunately, I made some suspension changes that were counter-productive. I tried to do some testing here in Oregon before heading East but all I got was some test days in the rain at PIR (Portland Int'l Raceway). I never realized what was wrong until I was 1500 miles from home, and at Road America. I didn't even come close to my record. On the other hand, neither did any of the Aussies. So, I still hold the record. Go USA!!!!!

Nice looking plastic. Assume there is an engine under all that. Well my wife's Jaguar is almost as bad.

Ok, I'm tried of waiting......... I thought Richard (BoyRacer) would follow-up his last post by sharing this piece awesome vintage race video he took during last years Northwest Historics at Seattle's Pacific Raceway. So I'm doing it instead. There's plenty of excitement in this short vid so crank the sound and enjoy the big Healey scream!

BTW, if you like the music sound track it's by the Dandy Warhols.........they're from Portland, Oregon too. I can't wait for the 2011 race season.
