Cheater! Cheater! NASCAR penalties for NAPA team

Sorry I know it's NASCAR and there ain't a heck of a lot f fans in the BCF - but I can't help it, this story gets funnier day by day.

Well it seems that Toyota's is doing it's best to fit right in with the Reat of NASCARs' Bad Boys Club.

NASCAR hands out penalties to the NAPA Toyota team for cheating

Granted $100,000, is a drop in the bucket when you look at the insane amount of money these teams spend per year. But the points (team/driver) and the two indefinite suspendions is pretty interesting.

But in my view if they really want to crack down on a team that bends the rules then the shouldn't be allowed to race. But for some reason NASCAR is going to let Waltrip re-qualify for the Daytona 500. That's kind of strange to me and seems to send a confusing message to the other teams and NASCAR fans.

I just saw this. MP is usually a straight runner. 100 points and the season has not even started yet. Sheeze.

Cheatin' is to NASCAR as Oreo's are to Milk!

They should scrutinize EVERY team...this type of "rule skirting" is abundant!

I've been a NASCAR fan for years...but it's getting to the point where thre isn't much racin' anymore....just packs of cars goin' around in a circle.

I follow all types of racing...but always looked forward to the NASCAR season the most (probably the "good ole' boy" in me...

What is it?! NASCAR is getting boring, Formula One is right behind....

<sigh>

I have been through the F1 and Nascar thing...tend to enjoy the British Touring Series when I can catch it.
Cheers, David.

I'll have to agree with Rick in some ways but all 43 cars going around in a pack, door to door is exciting. Having someone lap the field and blow everyone away is not as much of a thrill. The introduction of all the cams on the cars also adds a lot for the veiwer, as you can see just how tight it really is out there. Make's it a bit more dangerous for the driver but I bet there have been more injuries in baseball or football than there has been in Nascar over the years.

and the Aussie V8 supercars, those guys are NUTS

In order to get the equality NASCAR wants, they've got to be restictive,...so everybody gets the same templates, the same engine size, and,..oh yeah,....let's restrict the air inlet. I don't know who coined the term "Motorized Lemmings", but it seems appropriate.
No wonder they cheat,... gotta survive.
Take care Bob

The more money/sponsorship that gets pumped into racing, the further it gets from "grass-roots" racing ... the more regulated it becomes ... the more boring it gets!!!

The most watchable/interesting "racing" on TV today is "pinks", and I don't even like drag racing!! Amateurs who risk losing their ride if they lose the race!!!

PS: "Cheating" is as old as racing, and is not restricted to NASCAR (Is seeking/finding an edge not specified in the rules cheating, or an attempt at outclassing the competition for the win?)

I just heard on ESPN that the illegal substance in the intake manifold is thought to be jet fuel.

How can kerosene make you go faster?

No kidding, that is some intense door banging action. Always a thrill to watch.

I heard it was a "jelly-like substance" at first before they came out with the "jet-fuel" thing, Doc.! Maybe Toyota is developing new, secret technology...Why else would the penalty on the crew-chief be so high as to exclude him altogether yet still allow Waltrip to run the car??? Hmmm, secret napalm injection system??? Explosive power!!...Nah! Explosive publicity power!!! Yeah!!

My first thought would have been 'sterno'. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

the penalty dollar figure must be payed no negotiating no arguments, but the suspension can be appealed and will be, perhaps the crew chief made a bit of a confession/admittance? thats why hes being leaned on, to much bucks invested to pull the car and driver as well and would make the officiating even less popular. as i recall the last time i watched one of those races was so long ago most the cars had big wings on the trunk lids, they do that anymore?

Boy, it's been a while, eh, Anthony? They are just coming back to having wings on the back instead of airdams/diffusers, but they will no-doubt be much smaller than you remember (I am assuming you are remembering the Dodge Daytonas that were outlawed years ago!!).

and now it looks like they caught Jeff Gordon with an illegal shock mount......

The race gas had been altered.

Heres the deal...........

This has been going on in Nascar since the beginning. Smokey Yunick was the master of bending rules and parsing words. An it will continue to go on but will be more subtle as time goes by.

The COT (car of tomorrow) being phased in will even be more toward spec racing. Enen the cage is CMM'ed for conformity then given to the teams. bending the rules is going to get harder but hey...no problemo.

How come all of this is HEADLINES THIs WEEK???

Well its a slow day in the newsparpes and media.....they milked the movie stars last week and no it's NASCRAPS time!!

Just wait...headines in the National Enquirer next week...."Martian made replicant with a Cray brain cought driving..."

bigeyemike, yippy! they commin back with dah wings? ya maybe ill start watchin again -not! - i just made up my mind many years ago that the difference between a race like "lemans" and a "nascar" race is the difference between saying "good evening madam" and "howdeee". - sahzeech his own.

I'll say one thing about all this Nascar stuff -
- you actually got some of us paying attention to
it again.

dont ya think such events are designed to do just that? i must admit i did quite by accident (no pun intended) watch the show on what mastication they went through with toyota to set up their business association and found it much more interesting then watching a bunch of high powered autos going counter clock wise around the same track configuration for hours on end.
