Cheapest overhaul ever!

For a while now I have been frustrated by poorly sealing rings. The problem isn't too bad, just enough to really annoy me—especially considering I have less than 10,000 miles on my rebuild. I have long suspected that the problem was caused by a poorly designed oil catch can connected to manifold vacuum. Using SeaFoam and kerosene I have been able to improve the problem somewhat.

While pidling around with some other things on the car yesterday, I was struck by inspiration. With the spark plugs removed, I gave each cylinder a long blast from my can of Gumout aerosol carb cleaner. I replaced the plugs and ran the starter for a few seconds (with the ignition switch off). I let it sit for a bit while I finished up some other projects, then I fired it up and let it run for a few minute. Late last night I took it for a test run. Bam! A rock solid needle on the vacuum gauge. Wooooooooooo Hooooooooooooo!

And I still have almost a full can of carb cleaner!

Now, change the oil.
 
gm makes a top engine cleaner that works fantastic..you stall the engine with it and let it sit, then finish off the can with the engine running..lot's of smelly smoke but if anythings gummed up it should work..of course a lot easier to do if you have a weber carb..if the rings never seated properly nothing your going to do will fix that short of taking it apart again.
