Having read in various places that the trailing arm mounts for the IRS TR4A-6 can be a weak spot, especially when weakened by corrosion and stress over time, and being under the car anyway, and fabricating pieces to fix my cracked differential support, I thought I might as well do some work on the trailing arm mounts. Below are pics of what I came up with, the 1/8 steel I put in should spread the load over a much larger area than the little washers that were there before. Included are before and after pictures as well as one of my simply fabricated pieces.

A good idea but have you checked that the reinforcing pieces inside the chassis are still in good condition. And what are the other holes beside your bracket?
 
I have inspected the area as best I can and it appears to be in pretty good shape, but the car has been exposed to the elements, and there was certainly was rust in the body before I fixed it. So, a little insurance policy I am thinking, relieving some of the stress on the area in theory and hopefully in practice. The other holes were there when I got the car, I didn't put them there, assume they are stock for some ventilation.
