Chasing a 1275 motor and all the drive train

Just acquired a Mk III 1970 MG Midget called Middie - because the missus reckons it must be a mid-life crisis.

So for the challenge . . . the Midget has very little bits of "real metal" in it. On the bright side, the rust is a lovely colour, and I'm sure would do wonders for air-conditioning on a hot day

No motor, no gearbox, no drive train, no radiator. But lovely wire spoke wheels.

I live on the Central Coast of NSW Australia, about 90 klms north of Sydney.

I think I can handle the body, seems to be lots of body panels around, but the motor is another kettle of fish.

I have heard that there are certain motors which can be dropped straight into the engine bay, and the clutch, gearbox and driveshaft are quite compatible.

Any thoughts on the best way to go.

Interesting, chrome rear and rubber front....

It looks like a fiberglass "B" front end. Is it tilt too?

By the way, if you are not particular, any BMC A-Series engine/rear wheel drive tranny combination should fit it.

I didn't either. It looks like a one piece kit molded to look like that. It even has the sill curves.

Yep . . . fully fibreglass and tilts forward. The only thing on the car without rust actually. It's not a rubber-nose, just black paint.

There seems to be some sort of bracket added to the front to allow this thing to fit.

When I get a chance I'll take a pic of the bracket so you can see what I mean.

that's even stranger (the paint) likely some kind of racing bonnet - please show pics

Sorry about the time between replies. School holidays and Easter tends to interrupt the fun I am having with the car.

I'm giving it a go to get the pictures up of the front bracket, and the bolts in the bonnet itself. Let's see how it goes???

You know, that front end would look really cool painted all one color and forget about making it look like a rubber bumper!!! That is really neat! I like the "XKE-like" hood bulge too!

Yeah . . . it doesn't look too bad at all. Shame it's the only thing on the car which isn't riddled with rust.

Still chasing that motor and gearbox, looks like it will be a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g search.

When I work out how to post more than one pic I'll give everyone a look at my "problems". Here's one to give you an idea.

Yep . . . as the dearly departed Steve Irwin would say "KRIKEY".

Which is why I'm on the "will I or won't I" roundabout. Is it more trouble than it is worth, or will it be Good Fun once I get into it.

All depends on the motor and running gear. If I can't find something at a reasonable price with reasonable means to install, I will scrap her for parts.

Such a waste for a lovely old car.
