TR2/3/3A Changing to a voltmeter.

I just bought one of the Smiths knock-off voltmeters from India. Actually looks pretty good. It has two spade connectors on the back and my assumption is that I just plug in the same two wires as the amp meter. My assumptions have gotten me into trouble before, so I'm posting to get verification, or instructions as to how I should proceed.

NO do not do that. What you need to do is to take the two leads from the amp gauge and put them together permanently. I made up a spade and inserted both ends onto the spade. Then wrap that really well to insulate it from ever touching metal. As to the voltmeter. One contact goes to any ground ( dash or body , etc.)and the second lead comes from ( I used) a green wire from under the dash. If you try to use a live wire that is not controlled by the ignition switch your voltmeter will be active all of he time. Better to have it only working when the ignition is on.

Got a period correct voltmeter and clock for the MGB here, from Nisonger. Along with an analog clock. Voltmeter is switched as Charlie said, clock is "hot" constantly. Great additions to the old lump!

Since my tach and speedo are a bit questionable in their readings, I went for the $41 Speedo and Tach set from the same dealer...they are about 3.5 inches in diameter!
