Changing Bearings

Can you change the main bearings without taking the engine out. ie on the Fords you can use the new bearing to slide the old one out from the top of the crank.

You "might" be able to do some of the mains. Not so sure about the thrust bearing.

Usually if the bearings are worn the crank is worn also. It's kind of a crap shoot. This sort of repair without reconditioning the crankshaft will likely get you by for a few thousand more miles, but no where near what a reconditioned crank with new bearings would do. Some used car dealers do this just to get by for long enough to sell the car.
