Changing 5/8 to 3/4 Midget filter adapter nipple?

My 76 Midget takes a 5/8" hole spin on oil filter. Someone is sending me a replacement 5/8 to 3/4 adapter nipple. This way I can use a lot of over the counter filters The old 5/8 nipple needs to be removed. What is the correct way to do this without destroying the threads if it doesn't want to budge? Are the threads reversed or anything? Thanks!

Hi Jan... I wish I knew. The one in the Spit was installed before I got it. Did the part arrive yet?

Hey, Jan...if your Midget is like mine, it has the bolt-on piece that relocates the filter mount up and to the right a bit, to clear the air pump? The nipple on that (part #53, to make sure we're talking about the same thing!) is threaded normally; unscrews to the left. I'm very certain of that, as mine is loose, and usually ends up on the filter when I'm changing 'em. Hope that helps!

It sounds like a bit of degreaser and some Loctite on the 5/8 threads may be in order then.

An internal pipe wrench should do the job General tool makes a set that has one that should work.
