CHange backplate on 948 with 1275 unit?

All, (HAP-this is what we discussed)
If I want to change from the stock steel backplate on my 948 for the Tilton clutch, is that an easy change? It seems that the 1275 backplate will fit without changes, but is it as simple as unbolting the old and bolting the new in place?

I have a 948 with a ribcase and the stock steel backplate, any good places you reccommend to purchase a backplate?

Winners Circle, should have them, so should Mini Mania, if you know Dave Jahimak (slaughtered spelling) he has them as well. The Aluminum one saves you 8 pouuds and it will never crack like the factory cast iron ones will. I will warn you the oil pump cover form the samll bore engines are little different, the early small bore ones have MOWOG stamped into them, and the 1275 unit do not, you use the samll bore cover on the 1275 backing plate, it's a little loose fitting, but I did a bunch before, you just use some balck RTV and center it as you install it. A little A-series tip here for you Doug, alway make sure that you oil pump cover doesn't pooch outwards, if it does it can make contact with bolts in the back of the flywheel, always check for clearence there before you install the engine, if it pooches out, a tap with a dead blow hammer to the installed oil pump cover will take care of the problem.
 
Hap, you were close on the spelling of David's name. It's Jahimiak.
I think I have that problem with the tuna can on my 948. I never thought to rotate the engine after I mated it to the tranny, and after I got it in the car, It goes most of the way around and stops with a clunk. Go the other way, and after nearly a full revolution, "clunk" again.

Thanks for the tip, I am getting to the point that I can pull this engine in my sleep...it is just the little things I don't know that may hang me up!
 
Pulling mine is a bit more involved due to the through-tunnel exhaust. I still haven't gotten around to yanking it to figure out the trouble.
