Fifty years ago today, the Treaty of Elysees. Adenauer and DeGaulle smiled at each other.

Brought France and Germany together (peacefully!), and to many folks, ended an adversary relationship that had existed for centuries.

And they sat at the table 60 minutes longer because they had to Adenauer.
