Center Consol Options

As from the link in the earlier post. This might work alright, not sure it's worth $20. Maybe.....

This project will hopefully be done in a couple of weeks,
just bought a radio to install. Although this is for a five speed shifter location (6" back from normal) I've modified my form to make one that should fit regular shifter location.

I bought one of those exact boxes.
It is too deep, bad fit.
Let my wasted money be the last for that box.

Ok, not totally wasted I used it to make a speaker box for the left side front 6 inch Alpine in my car.

BTW - 6 inch Alpine speakers don't exactly make an adequate front when your rears are 6x9 Sony Xplods. I can balance it, but it isn't perfect.

OK - if you mount it in the center behind the seats it would work. I was uncomfortable having my stereo there.

Too deep to fit under the dash? hits the "firewall"? Bummer.
Cigar box then! Check ebay someday, there's no end to the various dimensions and they're cheap. Maybe a stroll through an antique shop (which is always fun anyway) will yield one.

Just went to measure again and now I remember this is a tight spot, can't really have the deck up high and horizontal as your hand would smash it shifting into 1 or 3 (as has been said), so I had mine on the hump and angled up about 30 degrees putting the controls below your shifting hand. Good ergonomics there for me all summer but tough to build something permanent and decent looking. Hmmmm.

I ended up removing the center console completely, putting the head unit in the glove box, 200 watt amp in the trunk, independent speaker box on the deck behind the seats with two Pro Bass coaxials and making a center console for the hump so I can Gansta' lean.

Wow......

My midget has a stock console that I spaced out by 3/4". I always felt like it was in the way and aggravating my knee, but I learned to adjust my driving position. Now, when driving the Bugeye (with no console), I can't get my right leg comfortable. Odd....

Same prob kind of, a folded towel between my knee and the tranny works well.

Modified a cigar box (from a cigar store, went through a pile for the right size, cost me $1.75). Made a little base for it. Will tidy up and paint (thinking some sort of textured paint, bed liner spray? so I don't have to work to hard making the box nice, let the texture hide the warts). Should work okay and only as big as the stereo to avoid knee issues, sorta "stealth" as it's all dull black (or will be) including the stereo front. Blends into the background enough that it shouldn't detract much.

Removable in seconds. Below shifter fist. Should stay put?
And yes, I know, the rat's nest of wires needs attention!
