Cell Phones - WHY?

I have one strictly to keep in touch with my wife and close friends. I'm trying to "unplug" as much as I can. it has been both a Godsend and a curse.

like everyone else... i have one, barely talk or text on it. I have an unlimited data plan, so I often do use it as a comparative pricing shopping tool, but i pull over to the side when i'm researching. I also found that it does a decent job serving as a Sat Nav unit in a pinch.

All you guys who Bitc%$# about cell phones don't have a contractor business that rely on customers to contact you for your business.

Don,

My point wasn't about people using them properly,
I'm just tired of people being self-absorbed with them.
One example,while in a resturaunt,I couldn't help
but overhear a (loud) conversation ...."Oh nothing -
just having breakfast",& then the person goes on & on
about everthing that's happening that day.
I've seen young women come into the store, never once
putting the phone away, and are describing everything that
they're looking at.
And we still have many drivers around here talking while
driving,which is illegal here.

I have resisted the cel phone for myself for years. Finally, my work insisted that I have one for use at work. I begrudgingly took it. I don't think a week went by when I realized what a great tool this was even for just communicating with someone on the other end of the shop. They allow me to use it for personal use, but I very rarely use it for that. It's good peace of mind if I ever need it while driving around and get stuck or need it for some other emergency. I certainly don't use it for idle chatter.

Mine comes in handy for mindless idle chatter. :thirsty: [It has actually become an indispensable tool in my bag of tricks for work.]

How about loud people in general - never mind the cell phone! Oh, and why do some women feel the need to marinate in perfume so you can't breath if they are within 50 feet?

Basil - you hit the nail on the head. Reminds me of Ethel Merman in Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

Wonder what perfume she was wearing ...

Don- I ran my own business for 36 years, never, as in ever, once had need of a cell phone, and for 25 of those years I was mobile, on various jobsites. I had an old tape-type answering machine, cleared it when I got home. No distractions during the workday.
I've had contractors here, nothing at the house piXXes me off more than a contractor, on the clock, taking calls on MY DIME for someone else's job.
Just my personal opinion, mind you.

We on a semi-regular basis get people who walk into the store talking on the phone. They barely acknowledge you when you ask to help them. Then after making a request they go to the front of the store to continue talking...and talking...and, Then we wait on someone else. When said talker comes back to the counter and tries to "butt" in, asking about his request (still on the phone) we put them off until the current customer is satisfied. Most of these types are so totally self-absorbed they fail to get the point.

Reminds me of a tee-shirt my wife saw years ago and still remembers:

"If I don't want to hear from you, why do you think I want to hear from your shirt?"
