Neighbor has a Samsung Intensity 2. Manual says "to transfer pictures to your computer using the USB cable, you must have the optional MicroSD memory card."

He bought the memory card, but it's actually two items: the memory card and a tiny adapter.

The adapter fits right into the phone. The card doesn't.

What's the relationship between the card and the adapter?

Thanks.
Tom

card goes in the adapter.

So you transfer to the SD card then the computer.
How archaic!

usually the phone should have a usb cord. Then when plugged in it should show up on your computer as an accessible drive.

So ... you slide the tiny adapter into the phone and use the phone like that? Then you remove the adapter and plug it into the SD card and plug that into the computer?

You mention "card goes into the adapter". But the SD card is bigger than the adapter. As the SD card won't fit into the phone, and the adapter *will* fit into the phone, I'm trying to see how/when you connect the SD card and the adapter. Can't imagine you use the SD card sticking out the side of the phone, plugged into the adapter.

You're right - plug the USB cable into the phone and computer, and the phone shows up on the computer desktop. But as there's no SD card in the phone, the desktop shows an empty Data folder on the phone.

Not sure I'm following this. Seems like a very clumsy system if the above is the way to use it.

Are we talking about something like this?
Kingston_2GB_Micro_SD_Card_with_AdapteraDetail.jpg

the little card goes inside the bigger card. The bigger card will fit some/most laptops. The tiny little thing should go inside the phone, usually under the battery cover.

Here is the users manual. Check page 13

Yes - looks exactly like that. Altho' the manual shows how to insert the card, you can't insert the card itself. You can only insert the adapter. The manual shows the adapter going into the phone slot, but never refers to the SD card itself.

And it never says anything about inserting the "small thing" into the "larger thing".

EDIT: OK, now I see the big thing is the adapter. The small thing is the "card".

EDIT #2: on the SD pack we got, neither the small nor the large thing is labled Card or Adapter.

So if the (small) card is in the phone and formatted, etc., and you use the USB to transfer files ... what the heck is the big adapter for? The manual never mentions it.

Tom

The adapter is so you may take the card from the phone and then stick it in a computer, if one so wishes.

m

OK - got it. Thank you!

Tom

your welcome.

I got an android app that allows me to transfer file to the computer through my wireless router. When you launch the app, it gives you a URL to type into your computer's web browser. No cables or cards needed. Called Websharing lite.

One more of those "intuitive" features, Tom!

:smirk:

Intuitive for a 12-year-old.

For us who've grown up expecting there are "Standards & Measures", not so much.

When I see all the stuff I need to pay for to get one little thing I need ... argh.

Like this SD card: I need the microSD, but can only find the microSD packed with an adapter.

And don't get me started on all the hard plastic packaging that imprisons simple things like screwdrivers, breakfast rolls, and flashlight batteries. Man, talk about a waste of (petroleum-based) materials. And you slice your hand open trying to get inside.
