Causes of dieseling on shutdown?

I fought with the problem for 2 years. Kept stalling it out. Could be idle - but I suspect IF that was the problem, you'd address it already (your gut would tell you it's too high).

My fix - the choke was stuck on slightly. Push down on the jet assembly. If it moves freely and returns freely - your OK. I susyepc that this will be the problem. Does the knob pull very, very difficultly on the dash?

Many have commented towards the timing - could be - mine was OK. Double check to be safe. My vote is the choke.

My choke still sticks, but manages to shake its way shut. I can tell based on the play in the cable. I have an aftermarket locking choke cable installed from a later model Sprite.

What I really need are a set of brand spanking new SUs or a Weber 40 :wink:

I know I'm missing out on power delivery and it's 100% the carburetors. I've been through them so many times that I'm going batty. I was driving my '54 Ford sedan tonight and sadly, the car has better accelleration than my Sprite and the thing has a 6 banger...

The dieseling is pretty much licked though.. the idle must have been too high. Once the car is warmed up and the choke is all the way disengaged, the car idles and runs smoothly. It just has a lack of power delivery and seems to run rich.
