Cat and Transmission

Hopefully some day I will be more able to contribute and not just seek advice. Thanks to the sound advice received on this forum, I am attempting a clutch replacement on my '59 100-6. The original sideshift transmission had been replaced with a center shift unit. I removed the Gearbox Cover and found that it was the original with some modifications to accommodate the center gear shift lever. Since the cover is pretty beat up, can it be replaced with a new centershift cover or will there be problems fitting it at the firewall end or elsewhere? Also, is the rear engine oil seal difficult to replace?
Now for the cat problem: While I had my head buried in the driver's side wheel well, I realized that either an animal had died or a cat had decided to turn the nicely carpeted inside into it's own LBC litter box. In short, it smells of urine or some other gastly scent. I have used all types of cat-be-gone sprays and cleaners, but the smell persists. It has permeated the entire drivers side carpets and beyond. Any suggestions? Hate to replace carpets since they are in great condition. Thanks for help. Eric

Well Eric I have to guess here. I guess if they fitted a center shift top to a side shift box?. Then any center shift Top should also fit with no additional problems.

No the aftermarket rear engine seal is not difficult to replace . However,You will be required to expand the cut out in the rear engine plate to provide the required clearance. This can be done using a hand drill if required.

Regarding the Pissy smell, go to a quality pet shop and buy; "Natures Miracle" Stain and Odor Remover.Follow the directions explicitly.---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

This is the offical reply from the small animal vet of the family (my wife)! 1. Sometimes nothing works (just too much material to neutralize) 2. These have been used at the clinic by clients with some success and some failures

While on vacation my in-laws locked our family cat in the garage and turned my 328i into her personal porta potty. White Vinegar did the trick.......

Good luck.

There was not a rear seal from the factory. Installing one is not too difficult. Kits cost under a hundred bucks. You might consider changing to a BJ8 diaphram style pressure plate while your in there. Other threads on these subjects exist here try a search.
