Leroy from Flatwater AH was pretty lonely out there in the
JC Fremont Days parade....lots of Fords...lots of Chevys..lots of tractors
and 1 poor old MG...but he looked PROUD!!!

And at least he got one sure vote, eh? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif

Hey Mike-

I'm thinking they should have a special judging class:

"Best looking, non-functional, TR6 on Jackstands"

I'll bet Crypty would win a few.

Most of those local hot rod shows aren't equipped to handle our cars - they're into US steel....there's one near me once a month & if someone shows up with British, they don't know what to do....I've told them continuously that if they start a British class, we'll come...but I think they're afraid to change the focus of their show.

Are our little cars THAT scary/threatening to the muscle crowd? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Ah, yep!

Last week I went to a local show that occurs every Thursday evening. It's just a few blocks from my house. I pulled up in my Cooper and got lots of looks. Then a guy came up to me and said that I wasn't welcome because this is an American Iron show. Others attending the show said that it was an open show and liked the fact that my car was there. I told the first guy that I would be happy to leave, rather than start any problems, and started toward my car. Others blocked my path and asked me to stay - that started the argument between them. Needless to say, I stayed long enough to see the only other British car at the show win the "Car of the Night".

Hmmm! Anglophobia, whoda thunk it! But a hotrod Anglia is welcome huh? Go figure /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif
I wonder if they'd let that Bugeye with the Chrysler hemi in? Is it the chassis or the powerplant that is so exclusive?

PS: I'm with you Cliff (on your response)! You cannot argue or reason with ignorance!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Golly. I wonder what that first fella would say if you'd have showed up in a genuine 427 Cobra or GT40. I'm sure he would welcome those "american" cars with glee. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I think its latent embarressment about doing all the modifications they've done when they see one of our little restored LBC's...& see how much fun they can be.

Yeah - what if a genuine Cobra,or Tiger showed up,
would they ask them to leave?
TWO thumbs up Cliff!
Some people forget that we're CAR people,& we should be in it for the fun of it.If we all liked the same thing,
we'd all be driving.....'55-'57 Chevrolets (& riding Harleys). How boring would that be?

Well you see, to the great unwashed, little cars are not manly.

It has been my experience that most of that "muscle car" crowd are in one way or another compensating for their "manliness" or lack thereof! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

You have no idea how accurate that statement is, I work with
a couple of guys who think AMERICAN MUSCLE CARS are the be all
end all of the performance automotive market. I just state
when you can follow my MG B GT, or any one of my Capris at the
same speed through some of my favorite roads, I'll agree with
you. Until then, STFU...

Steve - I'm always making that offer...& I've got a nice mountainous, curvey, country road laid out to take them on (we'll be driving it on Sep 22nd when we have our meet & greet - more on it in a future post)...actually had a guy in a Chevelle SS take me up on it...after a bit, he couldn't stop or slow for curves as his brakes had gotten so hot & were fading so much....when I got to our appointed meeting place at the end of the run, he drove past a little later without stopping & you could hear the squealing as he limped down the road....hehehehe

But, I also know better than to get in a straight line drag race with one of them!
