Cars like this kill me

Okay, cars like this just kill me. Everytime one comes up I start thinking about what I could sell to afford it (Kidney? Do I really need that spleen?).

An original RHD Bugeye might just be my all time favorite car. I need to win a lottery some day, so I can afford the barn and the collection...

can never understand why they make everything pretty but the engine bay - still seems like a good deal

I've noticed that about the engine bays on ebay cars many times. For what people call "lovingly restored" cars, you got to wonder how superficial the restoration is when the engine bay is filthy. My car is just the opposite with nicely repainted engine, bling alloy rocker arm cover, freshly painted air cleaners, and everything sparkly clean. The outside is a 50 footer (it looks great at 50 foot) Maybe I should drive around with my hood up so everyone can see my engine bay.

That car is supposed to original, unrestored, I've seen it on auction before, that why the engine bay looks the way it does, it hasn't been touched since 1959, supposely only has 2000 miles.

didn't notice that - though that just deepens my suspicion as the exterior doesn't seem to match the under hood. To these eyes at least it looks like a lot more than 2k wear on the engine bay (look at the battery shelf) while the body/ interior looks better than factory

If I didn't have the Tunebug to finish, I'd be going after this one for more information. Pictures look reasonable (though the black engine bay is evidence at least that part has been repainted), and the asking price is ballpark reasonable if it's in really good shape.

I'm just a stupid sucker for RHD and the Bugeye smile, what can I say. Probably best that I don't have lots of money anyways...

Actually, although I appreciate a nice looking engine bay, there is a part of me that thinks the outside is supposed to look pretty and the inside has a job to do, and if it gets a little dirty and scruffy in the process, as long as it is doing its job I am happy.

Only thing that really concerns me about that one is that gatewayclassiccars has eight cars for sale but zero feedback.
And though they have ebay vehicle purchase protection, they don't take paypal and have no paypal protection

Puzzled me as to how nice the exterior looks, and then they show a photo of that chipped up Sprite arrow on the boot!!!! Even on an all-original car, any owner could have taken a dab of gold paint and touched the bloody thing up!!! There seem to be too many little discrepancies (like Jack said, the door panels seem replaced, but the boot badge wasn't!) for a true "survivor"!! Maybe its just me!!
Don't get me wrong though, still a nice Sprite, and for those who like that RHD, a positive dream!!

Do you REALLY believe that, Hap?

I agree with Texas, you have a car tha nice on the outside and the numb skull owner never opened the hood to see what might need taken care of. every time I see one of these for $15,000+ I just dream, I will be sitting on a goldmine but did not restore her to sell.

I've been seeing that blue and yellow backdrop behind car pictures for years. Wonder if it's the same guys with a new name or something.

That car has a new Moss? interior, carpets and seats and dash.

Also has a new heat sheild behind the carbs and new style hose clamps.

Now, that is not to say it is not nice because it is. The seller is just a bit off.

No one even mentioned the missing heater in that car Drew posted!!! (and yes, I agree that it looks like way more than 2000 miles on that engine bay!!). And that side mirror, low on the door, does absolutely NOTHING for me!!!!

Heater was an option.

Why would the engine bay be repainted with only 2000 miles on the car? That body should be all white under the bonnet, not black. And, what Jack said. Still a real nice looking car.

It's not so much the details of this car, but the fact that it's a reasonably clean RHD Bugeye that makes me go weak in the knees. If I was in a slightly different position -- I just sold my daily driver, and am shortly to take out a modest loan on a new one -- I'd be pursuing this one, even knowing it would mean selling the Tunebug (though of course I'd keep my new Hap-built motor).

Proof, I guess, that these sort of events happen when you are least able to move on them. Or maybe I've got someone upstairs looking out for my financial interests, keeping me from making stupid(er) decisions.

So I'll happily keep plugging along on the Tunebug.
