It's a Manta Mirage which was based on the McLaren M6. The Coyote X was a whole different kit car but was based on the McLaren M6BGT. The car in this photo is a Manta Mirage. The major difference being that the Coyote X, the car in Hardcastle and McCormick (which I watched for the car) was a car based on a VW Pan and used a 914 engine. The Manta Mirage kit car has a tubular chassis and is built to incorporate a small block V8 using a ZF Transaxle similar to the one used in Pantera's.
When I was 17, my step dad and I looked at a Manta Mirage kit. The gentleman selling the kit had already sourced many components. Including a quad-weber crossflow manifold for a small block chevy and the ZF transaxle. The only things we would have need would have been the engine and to decide what sort of interior and gauge package we wanted. everything else was there. My step dad saw the look on my face, remembered me showing him how I could four-wheel drift his Corvette, then thanked the man for his time and drug me out of the garage. The next week he helped my buy my first sports car, a Datsun 240 Z.
Sort of like my best freind saying in front of my dad that he didnt think a car that didnt have a V8 could chrip the tyers in 3 gears. He looked at me side ways and that was the last time a got the Alfa for a loooong time.
Miss that little rocket.
