Carrying on with the move - its own thread

At any rate, time to unpack. Mrs JP is the daughter of a mover and she rocks organization (yes including me  )

So by Saturday we had this

and this

and even this

and yes, waking up to those windows is every bit as wonderful as you might imagine.

Unfortunately we are now (in September!) in the midst of a brutal heat wave and the garage is HOT! so, it still looks like this

That's it for now. Will keep you posted as I have time.

Looking great!

(But looking at the first two photos, I think Mrs. JP needs to give you a bigger plate ...)

I am envious of your garage and shop.
his garage is probably as big as the whole ground floor of my house. I have a piddl little car port attached to the side of my house to rebuild the panther in, with just enough room for a work table at the side and tool box at the back end.
I am very close to dropping the body back on, so the table will have to go.
Envy does not even come close.:troll::cryin:

Congrats on being in the new space -- and on having a real amount of garage space!

That view out the bedroom window sure looks lovely, what a thing to wake up to.

Very nice! Looks like living there, you'll never want to leave,So I
guess you'll never get by our place now.
Those shots (except the garage ones) just don't look right -
there should be boxes & clutter everywhere.

Lovely!!

Will you be insulating the garage? That plus a wood burning stove…
That is the plan. There are a number of very curious things about the house. This pic shows a staircase

It goes up to the attic which is the only storage space in the place. Also uninsulated, but has two skylights. This makes me think that the shop space and the attic space were intended for something, but what we don't really know. There is no plumbing roughed in, so, maybe a studio? Also the door out of the garage into the house opens into the primary bedroom. This is great for when we fight as I don't have far to go but strange in every other respect. The whole addition (primary bedroom/ ensuite/ laundry Room/ garage) leaves the door coming through the bedroom as the only option - but even then, there could have been a mud room or something outside the door.

At any rate, yes insulate and in the family room there is a fireplace and a wood stove so, potentially the stove could end up in the garage one day.

The real frustration is the electrical. There are currently only three rooms with overhead lights (that aren't halls or bathrooms) - dining room, one bedroom and the kitchen. As well the light switches are genuinely bonkers - in the family room two switches 12 feet apart that work the same outlet. The other outlet close doesn't work at all. We still haven't figured out how to turn on the outside lights. sheesh.

On the plus side with this brutal heat I am stunned (35C/95f today) how effectively the AC works -it is geothermal and works quicker than the AC in our last house. So, progress.

I get it, Mrs JP is a fiend. so, a huge pile of empty boxes and paper in the garage. Still hope to get by your place one of these days but the move has also shifted the Florida route through Washington DC.

A bit of an update. We are mostly unpacked though the garage continues to be a disaster. I may have mentioned that Mrs JP and I retire at the end of the year and suddenly everybody needs to see me in the next three months. At any rate it was time to get the Viva to its new home. Got to my firend's house and called CAA. Firt truck came and wasn't a flatbed, so waited for the correct one. the level of CAA coverage we has offers 200km tows - the new house was 211 km away. Driver was about to write up the invoice when I handed him a $100 bill and asked if that would cover it - 'why yes sir' as all hesitation about the tow disappeared. (there was quite a bit of sucking of teeth about the missing door glass and the stuff in the car) but, all gone!

I had a meeting to go to so Mrs JP received the car, said the fellow took amazing care unloading and now she resides in her new home waiting for me to find the energy and the parts to get back to work.

BTW the $100 tip was probably the best money I spent on the move - not too many years ago I would have fretted and fussed about getting it towed and trying to call in favours - this was very inexpensive peace of mind.
