TR2/3/3A Carpet snap installation tip

I’m installing the carpet in my TR3A and for a couple of the snaps, I used the awl method that’s been outlined by others. After the first three or so, I decided to do an experiment. I mounted a snap button to the body first with a pop rivet. Draped and positioned the carpet where I wanted it, then felt around the carpet where the just installed snap button is. Once I located it, I pressed hard on the carpet directly over the snap. When I removed the carpet, it left a great imprint on the backing that made it easy to locate and attach the corresponding snap.

I then just redraped the carpet and snapped the carpet to the buttons that were completed. I then did the same marking process for others.

The next trick is to put a spacer under the snap, so as to allow for insulation(cut a hole in it).
All Tr's need floor and tunnel insulation.
