What would the stock, correct, carpet be for a '66 TR4A?

Would it be loop or cut pile? Which looks better?

Who supplies Wilton Wool? A company in Washington advertizes that they have it (but they don't answer their telephones).

Is Wilton Wool the "stuff," or is it overrated?

Thanks, all.

Yes, loop. I believe TR4s all came with grey carpet... possibly TR4As did too.

Not all grey replacements are created equal. The first set I got was nicely made but turned orange (from exposure to UV I think). The second set (different supplier) has so far retained its original grey color.

That company in Wa. Is a good company. E mail them

TRA's Judging Standards for the TR4 & 4A states "The carpet material used on the TR4 was a nylon loop. All 4As were the more plush Wilton wool material". Concerning color, that same guide says the 4 was charcoal gray in color, while the 4A was supplied in black, red or blue to match the interior trim color. Roadster Factory does supply the Wilton wool for the 4A and the Magic Carpet folk do a marvelous job of cuting and fitting. Not cheap but the best never is.

The company in Washington never responded to my numerous emails and telephone calls. I believe that you are looking for Charcoal Grey Nylon Loop although one supplier claims that the original carpet was Rayon. Also, Rayon is not easily stained and as a result it will fade. If you Google Rayon you will find that it is not appropriate for carpeting. Nylon carpeting is very difficult to find. The Moss carpeting is is made of polypropylene.

I believe Lou has it correct. My 1967 has some of the original carpet and padding - kickpads, section over the tunnel and section over the tunnel against the firewall and it is definitely cut pile. I couldn't tell you whether it's Wilton Wool or not though. The TR4A parts manual shows black, red and midnight blue for colors as Lou mentions as well.

Now when I restored my first TR4A, I was doing it to be a "like new" driver but on a young person's budget so I went with an inexpensive loop (not even sure if anything else was available in the early 80s) and since I used it every day, I had the Amco rubber mats as well. I would say that the Wilton Wool is going to give you a more "refined" looking interior and some of the reviews of the day indicate this without specifically mentioning the carpet while the loop gives it an earlier era feel. Just my opinion though!

Was it Heritage In WA. Do you get their recording? or, no answer?
