So, couple of weeks ago, I'm sitting in St. Arbucks, and my glasses start flashing red.
Look around, find out it's an Air Car outside and behind my field of vision. Okay, happens, apartments above, shops below, wife gets up at 0800, husband doesn't....you get an aid car.
But, the paramedic starts walking towards St. Arbucks, whilst pulling on his gloves.
I look around, there, 10 feet away, is "Amin" on the floor, his buddies hovering, he's shaking all over, hands in the air flopping, head banging. MAJOR seizure.
Listening to them giving "history" to the paramedics, seems this has been going on for 2,3 or 4 weeks.
20 minutes later, as they're wheeling him out, I ask his buddies if they have his keys.
No, said they, we'll get them later.
You don't understand.....he's going to hospital, gonna be in a gown, you aren't family.....his Mercedes is in a 2-hour zone, does he have pets at home....off they run to get the keys from the paramedics.

Next morning, the Merc is still in the same spot (looks like a 450SEL).......maybe. "Amin" is in his usual place, no friends, I realize he drove himself.

Walk over, ask how he's doing....looks at me like "whothehell are you", ask how he's doing.
Fine, Why do you ask?
You weren't fine yesterday.
I don't remember yesterday.

After I'm done, go to leave, aid car across the intersection at a competing coffee shop. Walk over, talk to the paramedics....ask them a "technical" question.
Seems they know all about this particular person and situation....waiting for the "Doctor" to rule on it.....in the meantime, he drives.

Last night, monsoon, heavy winds and rain...this morning, dark, heavy rain, gusting winds.....all sorts of stuff in the street and yards from the trees.

Drive into St. Arbucks parking lot, old pickup, six volt, stab the clutch, idle, of course lights dim a bit.....think, oh, carp (sp) there's a big branch in the middle of the driveway.
Then, I immediately think, highly developed, nearest big trees are a ways away.....as I roll closer, I'm reaching for the emergency cell phone....sure enough, it's "Amin" on his back in the pouring rain, arms in the air shaking....and I dial 911.
And block the drive.....with folks behind me irate....until I get out and walk back and explain "man down".

I pass the scene, as six folks are holding umbrellas over him...and realize his Mercedes is across the drive...he made it halfway from the car to St. Arbucks....and again, he was driving......

Dave- Your life is a series of short stories...or I need to go to Mr Schultz's stores more often

Any clues as to what was/is going on with him? It sounds like to could be very serious especially if it is untreated and he is allowed to drive.

Starbucks bought Lawton's old Dunkin Donuts building, now the coffee and pastries aren't as good yet both cost at least 3 times as much as Dunkin Donuts did. And the funny thing is they are always packed, lack of business is why Dunkin Donuts left Lawton.

P.S. I hate Starbucks; so so coffee, no one knows what a cup of coffee is in there, no one knows what black means, tall is a small, overpriced, I can make better at home.

Most coffee aficionados don't fancy his coffee
Beans are way to over cooked, almost burnt
It's a coffee for the masses and will do if nothing of good quality is available

Guy from church brings one of his employees over, his truck doesn't run. Church guy tells me a little about it, I turn to the owner and ask him some questions. The guy just stares straight ahead. I ask again, same thing, I ask one more time, church guy does too. About that time the truck owner, who is about 6'3" 300#'s starts to lean forward a little...and a little more...and more....and more. He starts goin' down face first on'na slab. He's standin' to my immeadiate right, I reach out and grab him with one arm and off we go...

I slowed him down just enough that head didn't split his face open. I'm freakin' out cause I've never seen anything like it before.

Church guy: "Happens all the time, no idea what it is. He's been to all kinda doctors.."

The guy finally comes to. Church guy starts asking me about the truck again...

I tell him i can't help him, the guy shouldn't drive till he gets this under control.

"naw...he's alright..."

I catch church guy again later on and try to beat it into his head this is gonna end badly. Not only that, MY WIFE drives on these roads. If something happened to her because of this guy, it isn't going to end well....for anyone.

"Na, he's o.k most of the time..."

Now church guy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, matter of fact, he's the ....well, anyway, church guys sells this dude his old truck cause he can't get the other one running.

I told church guy he's nuts and the dude shouldn't be driving, somebody's gonna get hurt real bad or worse.

Fast foreward three months, this guy trys to drive his newly aquired Toyota 4X4 up an oak tree at 60 MPH....

Church guy, " That was that saddest funeral I've ever been too."

I wanted sooooo badly to say, "YEAH, it should been....you kilt the sumbitch!"

...but I refrained...somehow...

How freakin' stupid do you have to be ?!?!?!?!?

Honestly, hate to say it; I feel releaved. Least there wasn't no one else involved.

I don't know. His buddies say it's been happening since about first of December. One mentioned stress...as in, "stress can do a lot of things to you".
More, however.
That afternoon, after struggling with moral and ethical dilemnas, I called the local cop shop.
Had an officer call me, and I explained.
He explained there wasn't a daXn thing he could do about it.....he couldn't even go down to the hospital and see the records.
He has the license number, make and model, colour, and first name (which, when they ran the plate, was correct).
Two days later, car was gone from St. Arbucks, one of his buddies said they let him out of the hospital, he came and got his car.
Next day, there he was, all by hisself, with his tablet and books....MB parked out front.

There is nothing anyone can do until he kills somebody.
Even then, it will take a court order to get the doc to say whether or not he told the guy not to drive.

Now, I just watch for that MB on the road, and am fully prepared to get OFF the road and behind a tree if I see him coming.

Can ya get a vid of him floppin' around like a speckled trout in'na ice chest?

I had a situation like that.Idiot neighbor kid hits good Neighbor's
4WD Tacoma. He hit the parked truck while he was on the wrong side of
the street.
No insurance, suspended license, plus he left the scene of the accident-
"Hit & Run",vehicle was towed.
A couple of weeks later, after the family (he around 30,& lives at home),
I see him driving the same vehicle.I call the CHP dispatcher to report it.I'm told
that "There's nothing we can do".
Whatever happened to common sense,& "Right & Wrong"?

- Doug

Hard to say, my guess 60.
Now I gotta go buy a video camera.

Tink you can befriend him and then reason with him at a later date?

Hard to reason with someone floppin' around like a speckled trout in'na ice chest.
