Career Change, or improvements?

My son just bought some Ikea furniture. He has a bad back so someone is coming to set it up for him. You may be onto something. I kicked around for seven years or so in dead end jobs before I decided to go to law school and found my life's work. That was in 1960. I'm still at it. Can't afford to retire - can't afford not to.

I wouldn't mind going to law school. It was something that interested me late in high school and early college. One of my fraternity brothers graduated in the top five of his class at one of our state university law schools, and just got elected Criminal Court judge. There may be more prestige than pay there, but he was a very bright and honest man, so seeing him do that made me proud.

Downside is that law school is at least two hours away by car from here. Not to say it couldn't be done, but I don't see an open pathway.

As far as the IKEA thing goes, they offer some kind of delivery service and setup, and really advertise kitchen cabinet setup. I wouldn't do anything like that. So, anyone doing something like this is competing with them. Gut feeling tells me that a one or two-man operation with a truck or trailer could probably undercut them and still remain profitable, as well as being a smaller and more nimble operation. Go down there Mon-Wed-and maybe Friday, T-Th-and maybe Saturday for delivery and setup, if someone wants a same-day pickup and setup, they can have it, for a price. If someone wants a same-day pickup and setup on Saturday, they can have it, but they'll bloody well pay for it... Take Sunday off.
