Has anybody used the STE synchrometer type SK to balance their carbys and are they as good as the reviews, your thoughts would be appreciated

It works, but so does the old "Uni-Syn" type, or a piece of 1/4" tubing as a "Listenin' Pipe" with a bit of experience.

A much more useful tool where carb adjusting is concerned IMHO is the ColorTune widget. I've had two for years, they're very useful for getting mixture spot-on.
 
I've used one for years and found it works well for balancing carbs. Assuming you're talking about this one:


I need to try a Color Tune one of these days.
