I have been a member for a while. I sold my TR6 a few years ago. (bad move on my part) My son has a 74 TR6 that he has had in storage for a while. I am going to try to help him get the carburetors tuned in. As I said, it has been a long time since I have worked on these cars and I am looking for a little help before I get started. He told me that one of the bowls were empty and the needle seems to be sticking. Other than that I don't know the condition.

I am asking for any help on what to look for and any other information on how to help get his car running..

Thanks for any help and advice, Pete

Pete - great that you're helping your son and his own TR.

What specific problems and symptoms can you share with us? Does the engine fire, is fuel reaching the cylinders, did the engine run ok before it was put into storage, are the fuel filters clogged, etc.

Tom M.

How long was it parked?? You may need to clean tank replace the fuel filter a few times or get one that you can see inside as in glass. Replace the Diaphragms, If you have the OEM fuel pump also put in a repair kit Run the motor with good fuel and add SEA FOAM in the new gas and oil. You may also need new tires and battery. Check points and plugs and reset valves some of the valve springs have been setting on full load all the time it was parked. Then drive the wheel off good luck

He called and said the car started right up but both carburetors were leaking gas. He lives a couple hours from here so I guess I will drive up tomorrow and see what we can do.

I'm thinking floats or float needle valve?

Thanks again for the responses, Pete

I'd say shortcut the "NOW what?!?" issues and first get rebuild kits from Joe Curto's outfit, bench the carbs and go thru 'em completely. Otherwise you could be chasing your tail trying to guess what else could be wrong.

Yeah, you're going to find dried out seals and more than likely crusty Throttle Bypass Valve diaphragms. And there's no telling where the half dozen adjustments have ended up....
