Carburetor gaskets

I have an AH 3000 BJ8 with two SU HD8 carburetors. I found 4 gaskets for each carburetor in the following sequence:

air filter -> gasket #1 -> carburator -> gasket #2 -> heat shield -> gasket #3 -> insulating block -> gasket #4 -> inlet manifold

Gaskets #1 to #3 are paper gaskets, while #4 seems to be made of a kind of a metal, which has a lot of factory made press-fit recesses (the best I can describe it).

Question is, whether this kind of seal ist original, because I couldn’t find it in any oft he parts catalogues and whether it seals air tight without using a sealant like for instance Hylomar?

The way I understand it is the metal gasket has an insulating material in it to help insulate the carburetors from the heat of the manifold . I just assembled them all dry . The metal gasket will crush like a head gasket to create the seal needed .

Thanks Healey Nut, but who offers these special gaskets since I couldn't find them in the catalogue of Moss, Limora (Germany) and Bustuck (Germany)?

no longer available. ahead4healeys show a photo of the original type but when you get them delivered and they are the paper type they say that's all you can get now I could not get them anywhere they were going to remove the picture and show what is available don't know if they did

They have always been in the head gasket kits that I have bought .

I guess, I'll take the old gaskets with some Hylomar and that will do it, because I think it's not a good idea to use paper gaskets right next to the exaust pipes.

Lutz,
If the gaskets you're referring to are the standard graphite-grey paper types used in the area of the carb, heatshield and spacer block, don't believe one of them has ever caught fire. Everyone's been using these forever.

Lutz--

As pointed out by others there is no fire risk. Instead of Hylomar use Permatex Ultra-Copper (Hi-Heat).
