carburation

[ QUOTE ]
Hello John,
performance cars tend to be tuned 'rich' (relatively) and dark exhausts are common. Black smoke should not be present except possibly on full choke, and the liquid you see out of the exhaust is likely to be water not fuel.

Hi Alec,
I think you are right on.

John,
Water is a normal byproduct of fuel combustion. When the exhaust system is hot you don't see the steam, but it's still there. In a cold climate, it's common to see clouds of white condensed steam coming out the tail pipe.

Re: carburetion

19 to 23 is about what I get too.

Its easy to screw the mixture up, if like me, you dont know what you're doing. Ive had clouds of black smoke and once had a guy pull alongside me to tell me he could smell gas out of the exhaust!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

I've learned my lesson. I get my carbs set by a guy who races Healeys...and then...I dont touch them...ever!!

One day when Ive got time I'll learn how to set them up myself. ....Ok maybe not!.

Re: carburetion

Hi Keoke,

May go to CHW for the car show, although the Moss Motors/VARA Buttonwillow event is that weekend, and so is the Muckenthaler Cruise and Concours - guess I should make a decision sometime soon!

Dave,

I never go fast enough to get 19 mpg! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
