Carbs fit, yay!

Test fit my carbs tonight; I was certain the manifold and the HS4s would fit. But I wasn't sure if the filter setup would clear the inner fender when the bonnet closed (Spitfire).

I stole a page from Hap's playbook and used a pair of MGB filter bases with "clamp on" style K+N filters. I polished the bases and bored/recessed the mounting holes to take Allen head set screws. Filters are K+N RC-4230. They don't have mounting bolts in the throat to disrupt the airflow; they clamp onto the flange of the filter base. This is about the biggest filter that will fit depthwise. With the hood closed, there's about half an inch of clearance from the filter face to the inner fender. Still need to fit a manifold gasket and the heatshield, but thats no more than an 1/8in. Thanks Hap!

Yeah, man ! I really like the way those filters are fitted. I never seen them set up like that.

It's claimed that the filter bases have a significant impact on "shaping" the airflow on the HS4. Getting rid of the mounting bolts was just a side benefit. Hap will probably know more.
