carb rebuild question

I'm working up the nerve to rebuild my carb - actually I hoped to start tonight but I remain intimidated. Before I go, here is my question. When I rebuild, do I put anything on the gaskets as they go together? Or, do I rebuild it dry?

TIA
JP

Dry.

doin a carb rebuild kit is fairly easy....dont worry about it...just replace the old parts with the new........z

I have rebuilt a handfull of SU's and a ton of Holly's. Sounds funny but I always use chapstick on the gaskets before I install them. That way nothing is greasy, nothing is glued down, they tend to seal better and they next time I take them apart the gaskets are not sticking to anything... Just an idea... Good Luck! John

I don't know - My wife has already Christened the car Miss Tris - if I tell her I now need chapstick /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously now - in my Haynes Manual (page 89 section 14 #9) it refers to needing a special tool #S353. What is this and how do I get such a tool or adapt?

TIA

So, it's midnight, I've disolved the finish off the kitchen table with brake cleaner (Haven't told darling wife yet - let her sleep) I've started rebuilding and so far so good. HOWEVER there are parts in the rebuild kit that I have not seen come off the carb - O rings/ very tiny nuts etc. I also seem to have more gaskets than I need. Finally, why O why don't they include springs in these kits? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Those kits are genertic, fit many things. You now have some stuff to store away, lol.
