Doc--I am in the shop doing the carb fix you told me about. It is very simple--thanks.

???

~I~ told you how to FIX something??? And it's SIMPLE???

...something is very wrong here...

uh-oh.

Am I endangering my ~maggot~ status?!!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Tool a break and ate lunch -- and both carbs are now done. GGggot to use my neglected solder sucker. Thanks. Now to put them back and start up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

You're gonna have an idle you couldn't achieve before and it'll STAY where you set it now. Go for around 700~800 MAX.

I see the idle went up to 1500 RPM when I test drove the GT. I got back and reset the idle to 700-800 RPM. That should stop sounding like a runaway at stop signs. I assume the low idle at first start will be helped by the choke? Again thanks.

On "cold start" it should actually NEED the choke. Once warmed up it should light off so quick you can't let go of the key fast enough.

Now that you've cured the air bleed you need to reset mixture, balance, etc.

You really didn't need to say that. I have to buy a carb meter so I can do that. I borrowed the last one and I don't like to do that very often.

hehehehe... I think they already started /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I need to redo my ZS soon... It's always been missing the water "choke", but even with the lever tied back to the lean setting, it still fires up as quickly cold as it does hot... Not to mention my 12-14mpg /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I can actually get about 120-130 miles on one tank of gas /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif that ain't right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

I *know* you have a piece of 1/4" fuel hose... Use that as a "listenin' pipe" and adjust the "hiss" of the two carbs to the "same" sound consistent with idle speed. DO NOT stick the hose in yer ear-hole, just close enuff to hear the "hiss" distinctly. Practice and you will overcome! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I forgot I have the carb tool kit (found it under the spare tire). They show you how to use the two long wire thingies(for JB) to match the carbs. Great another repair to keep me from shopping with you know who.

I like your methods doc... Tube and screwdriver stethescopes - cheapest and easiest tuning tools I've heard of yet - besides just your eyes n ears and a good understanding of mechanical stuff! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Tube method works great. Use to carry it in the car as everyone seemed to think I was a wiz with SUs. They would stop me along side the road in Hawaii.

The wire method has you take out the dampners and put two shaped wires that fit snug with a large 90 degree after they exit the top of the carb. You turn them to each other and adjust the carbs until the two wires match heights. Seems simple and I'll let you know how they work after I try them.

Yeah, I've an excess of those "kits": "Mostly Useless." The li'l "anvil" for jet centering is about the only piece in them I use. Easier and more accurate to just observe the pistons thru the throats, IMO.
