I own a BJ7 also but I have a question with my 72 MGB.When I accelerate at highway speed,it veers to the right and then to the left when I let up on the gas. This is with no braking.Someone suggested rear spring and shackle bushings.I put in new ones but no change. These are times when I miss Dave Russel.Thannks :hammer: for any help.Ben

Hi Ben, you might want to check the motor mounts as they might be loose or broken. That might explain why when the engine is accelerating it torques to the right, then when you let off it returns.

Yes, we all miss Dave R.

I agree with the reply referencing the U-bolts, but another thing you may need to check is whether the center bolt in the rear spring is located correctly, or if it has been damaged. The axle moving in relation to the spring could have sheared the head. I would be suspicious of the one on the right side because of the symptoms you describe.

U-bolts! Five (5) minute fix, including jack time.

Back in the 70s, you wouldn't believe the hoops I jumped through trying to find the cause of your very symptom (slaps palm to face...).
