Car transport...I need ideas

Might sell a 1959 Bug Eye to a guy in NY. I need to move the car (running) and and extra engine / transmission to him from Green Bay, WI.

No way the car fits on a typical car hauler, the car is too narrow.

What's the best way to move this whole package to its new home?

.......as an aside, I could include my TR8 to go that direction as I want Woody to rebuild the engine this winter....in case that helps the transportation cause.

Ideas?
 
There are several auto transporters that use enclosed trailers... I'd check around and get some quotes.

If you ship, I would advise to use a company that owns their trucks. Most of the reputable folks that advertise in specialty car magazines, for example. They can give you precise pickup and drop-off dates. Reliable Carriers and Intercity Lines have trucks with flat floors that can accommodate any axle width.

We recently had a car shipped from California to PA when we bought a used car from a dealer in CA. For a variety of illogical but correct reasons we ended up using the dealer's arranged shipper on an open truck with unknown schedule (sales tax related... you can't take a car off a lot in California without paying sales tax, even if the car is not being driven... unless the dealer still "owns" the car...). However the specialty car carrier (enclosed truck) was maybe 15% more. Total cost was around $2k.
 
Thanks guys. All great advice. Countrywide Transport has treated me well in the past. My parents use them twice a year to move their cars to & from Florida. They are, quite frankly, awesome. The little Healey won't fit. The extra engine? uh, no. Sadly, they are out.

I need something akin to Uber for car transport.

Know any high school kids with nothing to do one weekend? :smile:

We moved our son's possessions to Victoria using a guy we found on Kijiji (Craigslist) That said, I might be anxious from an insurance standpoint - Isn't there an online car haulage bidding website? surely they would know the size and bid accordingly.

relieve you of the decision making burden & the liability.

isn't that the more common & accepted way of a auto sale requiring transport?
 
I have transported several cars, including Bugeyes, to/from Ohio to Florida, west coast and mid-west. When I hire out the transporting (I also have my own enclosed trailer), I have used two companies: Passport and Reliable. Both have full floor, enclosed trailers. For an extra fee, they will handle spare engines, gearboxes, body panels, etc. Last engine I shipped, I strapped it very securely to a mover's dolly. The truck driver rolled it onto his truck and tied it down.

Thanks. I never knew they would take the other parts...I'll call them next.
 
Rent a Ryder truck. Drive it inside and stick all the parts in it.

BTW it didn't have the engine in it so it wasn't considered a car.
