Saturday I got my lard butt outta bed early and headed the 90 miles to Fond du Lac, WI to deliver a '49 Olds ragtop to one of our show car folks. Jim's car was our poster car at the Iola show in '97. I had brought it up a few weeks ago to insure it would be at our show. The car is a fabulous resto of a Florida car. It was redone 22 years ago but only has 244 miles on the odometer since. A real shame that it doesn't get driven.

I got back about 11 AM and jumped in my car and headed to a local tractor pull. Okay...I know I live in the sticks but it's been along time since I went to a tractor pull. Thinking my two buddies were pulling at the Rosholt (WI) Thresheree on Saturday I mosied (around here you can still safely mosy) over to catch the action. It turned out that only one friend was there...and in the grandstand not on the track.

Anyway I kind of enjoyed all the vintage machinery...hit and miss engines were sitting around chugging away...there were vintage machinery demos from baling hay to threshing grain. Lots of old tractors which have some neat styling and mechanical gizmos that are cool.

After about three hours I had all that I could handle and I headed home...I had other stuff to do.

My next deal in the afternoon was to pull an old, abandoned hot rod project out of the weeds at my son's place. I got this thing FREE a few years ago but hadn't done anything with it. It's a '31 Chevy frame with a Pinto (yes Pinto) rear and a Chevette (quit laughing!) front suspension. powered by a 250 Chevy in-line 6 and a Powerglide trans.

I sold the rear axle to a friend and I had to drag this home to pull the rear out of it. Another hot rod hoodlum buddy of mine came over on his home-made three wheeler ( Harley fork, fake Curtis Wright airplane engine in the front, late model VW Bug rear tin and powered by an early Bug engine) and told be he was going to build a 'rat rod' over the winter and he was searching for a frame...bingo! I sold him the remaining hulk for his project. All in all I got $150.00 for the whole shebang...the problem is it's still in my yard!

Sunday I headed over to Appleton, WI to the Pierce Park Car Show. This is a nice show every year and I was surprised to see the swap meet was bigger than ever. I vend here occasionally but didn't have any stuff ready to go. I did buy some interesting carburetors including a pair of 1.5 SU's that may work on my TR2. They are from a Volvo P144 and have the manifold still attached. I bought the SU's, a pair of 'mystery carbs', a downdraft Solex for a Sabb 2 cylinder and a 3X1 Solex that may also be for a Saab. Plus a 50's Olds "Rocket" valve cover and a kids wheel barrow...all for $40.00.

Sunday night I just kicked back...ain't summer fun?</span>

They look like Saab Monte Carlo carbs to me. Check the pictures at this link.

You're right. I found out they used triple carbs starting in '66. How cool would a six pack of these be on a vintage Ford Flathead or similar engine.

Not bad. But the traditionalist in me would stick with triple Stromberg 97s! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

I've got nine 97's and 48's stashed away...
