Most of my driving is local: maybe in a 20 mile radius, 45-50mph, no loads or passengers. Mazda Protege, 1.6L, stick, etc.
But next year I want to make a drive (over a couple months) around the USA, visiting family, friends, and former students from the previous 35 years.
I don't want to do it in my Protege. Great car, great mpg, etc. But not comfortable for long drives.
So I wondered if there's a way to lease a car for less than a year - maybe three to six months. A relatively big, heavy car "highway cruiser". I have no need to buy it, as I'd never really use it after my big trip. Normal car rentals tend to be over $200/week, way over my budget for a half year commitment. I'm hoping more for something like $500/month.
I've seen the usual 3-5 year leases advertised (even tho' those are getting rarer as credit remains tight). But can't find anything about leasing for short term.
Has anyone ever done "short term" car leasing?
Is it possible to pay the balance due on a leased car that someone returned before the lease ended - and thereby "complete their lease"?
