Car Haulers [also in Big Healey page]

Does anyone have any experience with a car hauler that's NOT a broker? My last experience, with a broker, wasn't good.

The haul would be from near Indianapolis to Syracuse, NY.

Thanks!

I've used two companies I would recommend...

Reliable Transport has moved two cars for me. One from Atlanta and one from Alabama, both to Los Angeles. Both cars arrived ahead of schedule and were delivered by husband / wife teams who were car nuts. Great attention was paid to the safety and well-being of the cars during transport and unloading.

The other outfit was TFX International. They were very friendly and the driver was a great guy. The car did arrive a day late but it wasn't their fault. Seems the delivery before me said there was room to turn the truck around, but when the driver got there it was a very narow road. So he had to back the truck down a twisty mountain road..... for 20 miles!! He got extra points for calling my MG YB "the cat's meow".

Another company I've heard spoken highly of is Horseless Carriage. They specialize in collector and exotic cars. I have no personal experience with them though.

As you've already discovered, be sure to avoid brokers. They are just a middle man, so you pay more for transport and you don't even know who is actually moving the car for you. Ask if they own their own trucks, and ask if it is enclosed or open trailer. Open is cheaper but will not protect the car from weather, rock chips, etc.

Hope this helps!

On other option I saw somewhere recently was a place called www.uship.com
I have no idea as to how well it works, but it looked interesting at least.

Dave - I used Motor Age Transport (almost exactly one year ago):

This guy is a real find. Cares about the cars, even knows a lot of tech and history. Kept me advised every step of the way on the cross-country trip with my TR.

Can't say enough good about the guy - and he's not part of some faceless corporation. He's the company.
