Car Advertising Trivia

I'll give the slogan...you give me the car. Some old, some not so old:

1. "A six for the price of a four."

2. "Once driven, forever smitten."

3. "Pick the Rocket to fit your pocket"....(get your minds out of the gutter)

4. "It's how the smooth take the rough"

5. "It doesn't look like you can afford it"

#1 is Chevrolet, when they introduced the Stovebolt Six
#3 is I think the Oldsmobile Rocket 88. But I doubt it.

Wow! When I read the first line of your post I figured I'd get at least one like "Ask the man who owns one" that I could jump on. But not a one that strikes a chord with me. Sure do like the last one though. No doubt you have all the answers.

Seeing your sig., I would think you may have a chance at the last one.

As to #1, yep, it's Chevrolet. A dig at Ford. The idea was that you could buy a Chev. 6 cyl. for the price of a Ford 4 cyl.

#3 is for Oldsmobile, and referred to the Rocket 8s available throughout their product line.

#2 is not American and is from the '80s.

#4 is also not American, and refers to the much hated category....the SUV.

I'm thinking Vauxhall was #2??? I remember those adverts from when I was living in the UK but I'm tossed between Vauxhall and Rover, but for some reason Vauxhall stands a little clearer.

#4 - Range Rover???

You are correct on both counts, sir.

Just proves I can remember somethings if I try hard enough

That one pulled some memories I haven't thought about in years. What's interesting is just last night I was having to explain to my wife what a Vauxhall was.

Thanks for making me use some of those dormant brain cells!

I still have a " once driven forever smitten "
Vauxhall poster.. Must be seriously collectable by now.. Ha ha..

Best one was for Kia. I saw it in Grand Rapids on a billboard.

"One for 8,000 2 for 15,000."

I hope someone else sees the humour in that.

Negative.... I have to admit I cheated and looked up #5 since I couldn't figure it out, but let's just say both of our sigs have this in common.

Can't post pictures in the humor forum, so you have to click the link to see the picture...

I did the "clicky link" thing and DUH. So it was a TR7 all along! I feel like a mental wedgie.

Sorry, I guess its not a popular term outside VN boards gaming forums.
In order to make hyperlinks and post pictures on most VN boards, you have to pay for a membership. On a lot of forums, someone will post a URL for a web site of interest to others on the forum and ask for a paying member to make it a "clicky link". Not very mature sounding, but hey, they are gaming forums...
