Little Blue has oiled more roads in the last two weeks than the Valdez did in a day. Twice nom I have almost emptied the sump on a 40 mile jaunt. Last time was due to a leaking Oil filter canister, turns out there was an old gasket still in place. After replacing I am still loosing oil where the Oil filter attaches to the engine. Two new gaskets should fix that I hope. Then possibly I should be on to smooth sailing. Question? To install a spin on oil filter kit do you need to install an oil cooler on a 65 1098?

No.

My spin on adapter likes(ed) to leak, I'd recommend you use some RTV.

My 1275 spin on filter on a 948 does not leak a drop.

Obviously something is not fitted correctly. Grind a nail so that looks like a chisel that just fits the groove and clean out all the old gasket to start with. Then determine exactly where its leaking from. Should be easy to stop unless the canister has been deformed.
