Can't make 50th. Anyone Want the Room?

I have a pinched nerve in my leg and my foot doesn't work right, so the Doc "Strongly recommends" that I not try a cross country road trip at this time. I've had reservations since day one at the Victorian Village. If nobody wants them I'll call tomorrow and just them go, but thought maybe someone could use them.

let me know

That is an absolute bummer. It's too bad your son can't drive. I have frustration here too. My car has been away for a couple of weeks because of carb problems. I was told last night that there is a vacuum leak and it might not be repairable in time to take it. At least I can go without it but that isn't an option for you. Couldn't you take another car that has an automatic transmission so you can just put on the cruise control?

Rats, Bill! I know that you were really looking forward to the trip, too. I hope your pinched nerve gets better soon - feet that work, I've found, are highly useful.

Sorry to hear it Bill, get better! Nelson, has it occurred to you that there will be more MG mechanics per square foot at the reunion than anywhere in the country and that a vacuum repair could even be a tech session - should be an easy fix in that crowd.

Bill: My back go's out regularly. I agree with Nelson, let Andrew drive most of the time in the family car with reclining seats and AC and come on along! Course I don't know how bad it is but it appears that you either sit around home and suffer while eating pain pills or you could sit in the car and eat pain pills and suffer. I've got a crutch and a cane!!

Kurt.

It's not that it's impossible for me to drive. It's that I can't sit for long stretches without pain. doesn't matter where. I considered having Andrew drive and me ride, but I can't sit that long. I considered flying out, but I can't sit that long either... It hurts to sit, it hurts so stand, it hurts to walk. I can do any of them, just not for more than so long at a time.

Total Drag...

All my cars have clutches, and none have air conditioning or cruise control.

I had the car packed with everything but my clothes and personal items. Wash, wax, rags, spares, tools, water, everything... I would go if i thought I could make it, but I don't want to get a thousand miles from home, or two thousand, and have the pain go intense. ..

Thanx for all your encouragement and ideas though.

Wow,I hate that. You are one of the ones I was hoping to meet up with. You sent me the head for the midget if I am not mistaken (never been good with names). That is just horrible. I know what its like to look forward to something and you had the cross country plan and everything. I will drink a beer in you honor my friend.

Jeff, I'll call ya in the morning and we'll get it all arranged.

Bill,
I am sorry to hear about your leg, and devastated that you won't be coming.
I packed my Oregon Ducks tee shirt just for you!!
I'll wear it in your honor, get well soon.
Phil

ps. now we'll have to do Midget 55

Actually Phil, there was some discussion on doing informal (no necktie required) regional drives for future sprite-midget "events". People could gather in a location 3-4 cars and do some back road touring. I'd like to maybe do one in the smoky mountains area. A bit far for Bill, but a reasonable drive for you. I was thinking that those of us that usually drive solo could offer "seats" to anyone that wanted to fly in and join the excursion and see a different part of the country.

Just thinking out loud here...

Trevor, I like your thinking!! Personally I like the Rockie's, Big Horn's, Black Hills, well--you get the picture.

Kurt.

Kurt

You get one planned for the Black Hills and Susan and I will be there. Just don't make it in July. Sorry We couldn't make it this year.

My state, Rich. I'd be happy to show some folks around!

Hi Bill,

Very sorry to hear it and that you'll miss the event. As someone who's had back issues before and been laid up for weeks at times, I can relate. Certainly, riding in a Sprite (or any car) for hours wouldn't help matters.

Thankfully, it's been a while since I've had any serious symptoms.

I hope you have a complete and swift recovery.

Back is one of the reasons I put the inflatable lumbar support in my driver's seat. If any car needed it, its the midget. Got the whole thing out of an XJ-6. I got two tiny switches below the seat, one runs the pump to inflate, the other opens the solenoid to deflate. It makes a heck of a difference in a car where you can't move around much.

That's a great idea. I use a towel, roll it up, roll it down. Do all XJ-6s have that or just certain models
?

I was thinking that we should hold it somewhere between the Rockies and say I-75 and between I-80 and I-40
I realize this in't a square area, but a general "middle half" of the country
