Here is the exact order of things you should see:

1] A small nut remove it
2] A small lock washer remove it
3] A smal flat washer remove it

Question: do you now see the connectors from the condenser and from the side of the Dizzy connector ??
If you do there is the problem!!! If not continue.

4] A small plastic insulator with a small extension on it fitted inside the loop of the point spring. Remove it
5] Conectors from the condenser and the side of the Dizzy connector
6] Remove the point spring
7] A second one of those plastic insulators with the extension on it Remove it
8] a small flat brown washer Leave it there

Keoke

After removing the nut couldn't find any washers but then did find the plastic insulator covering the pillar, allbeit only one of these on the top and then under the points there where two brown fibre washers !
Tested the power to the LT lead when connected correctly on the terminal post but nothing there, (should i be opening the points or something).
My earth lead looks like it may have got a bit "fried" when i was sending up smoke signals previously, would this affect it or perhaps the condenser.
Anyway how does a distributer work ??

Hi Rob, I was a bit congfused why if the external wire burned why didn't the smaller internal wires burn. So I guess they did. Yes you must have the points open to unearth the coil lead. Try putting the business card back and checking it out again. One more disturbing item : There should be two of those special plastic insulators; One on the top and a second one resting on the brown washer at the bottom. Without the one on the bottom also, the point spring will earth.

Similarly, when not using the business card to isolate the points from earth. The engine should be turned until the points are open by riding on a high point of the cam.

Very simply the dizzy is just a rotary switch operated by the cam that eaths the coil when the points close causing a spark to occur at the proper time for the engine to run. It is driven by a gear off the engine's cam shaft.===> Do not touch that gear below the dizzy!!!!

I think that your best bet is to send the Dizzy to Jeff at World wide Auto in Madison Wisconsin for a repair here in the US,or Burlens in the UK . Jeff will not charge you very much to put it right.---Keoke

keoke, well i did read the entire post, yes that is "disturbing" should be another insulator, keep looking! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

Hi Anthony:

Very Interesting thing about the plastic insulators. If you have an original Dizzy with a set of original Lucas points. There will be only one plastic insulator. This insulator's extended tip is as long as the contact spring is wide.It can be fitted to the bottom or the top of the post. Only a fibre washer is then required at the top or bottom of the spring. All after market units I know of that are patterned after the Lucas Use none or require TWO.---Fwiw--Keoke

See the post of 10/30/07 at ~4.46 PM on page #2.

Keoke

I have spoken to a guy in the UK who can get me a new LT lead, eartch cable, insulator etc, so i have opted to get these parts and try again.
As the time i send it back to AH spares and they forward it to whoever i probably won't see it for a month and i need to get on.
Fingers crossed by end of next week i may have a spark !!!!

Hi Chicken, that be a good un on you keep at it Mate and the bloody thing will run.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Hi Chicken

If all else fails, try 'Doctor Distributor' or something like that, they are in Somerset some where. They are on the world wide thingy.

Well i have a spark !!! a new LT lead, earth lead and setting the points right seams to have solved the problem.
The numpty that reassembled my dizzy put it together wrong, he put the LT lead straight to the pillar and there was no fibre washer under the other pin where the points hook over, so the points were constantly earthing !

Bob i actually got the spare parts from "Distributer Doctor"

Thanks for your help guys.

It will be running soon !!!!!!!!!!

Yep Chicken, sounds like that bloke's repair was not Cricket that is for sure.---Keoke
