None of the major suppliers has this decal. Does anyone know of a source?

Thanks

Thanks for the E-bay link and the Moss listing. Currently Moss does not sell the decal I need. (nor do TRF, Vicky Brit or several others we tried) There was another design, with concentric circles which was used on earlier cars. This particular oil cap did not have the finger depressions. The decal for this cap, shown below, is available from Moss.

Moss will sell you a complete oil cap with lettering for $27. This is where we bought the original. However, it came finished in flat black and the pie-shaped design is pad printed and not a decal, as original. The paint was just so so and the wrong finish. I expected more for $27 + shipping.

So, we decided to strip it and repaint in gloss black, so now we need a decal. We must have close to $100 tied up in that bit of metal! :madder:

Although I don't know much about it, in model railroading some people make their own decals from a scan, you need special paper and maybe a special printer, thats a lot of investment, but maybe a print shop or something could make one from a good scan/picture?

You need a special printer to print white, almost none of those you can easily access do. However, check the internet, there are places that will special print decals if you can supply the artwork.

I make a credible 'decal' from a simple photo processed at the drug store. The actual picture can be mostly separated from the paper backing by peeling the photo apart leaving a very thin print. I use a 2-sided Scotch brand adhesive to make it sticky though many other things would work. The photo print is fairly durable in wet & oily environments.

Of course it is obvious from your comments that this is very important to you (I applaud your effort at correctness, I just use my cap to keep the oil in) so perhaps this method is not up to the standard you're trying for.
