Can you help me plan a Goodwood trip?

As I age, I find myself contemplating those things that I really want to do before I loose all my marbles......... At the top of the list is going to and experiencing the Goodwood Revival.

I'm thinking 2011 is the year, and I'm hoping I can get some good information from list members that will help me plan the trip.

Questions regarding Goodwood:

Am I correct in assuming that, like most US car events, Friday is a "warm-up" day, Saturday is the main event, and Sunday everyone is thinking of getting home?

Am I correct in assuming that the traffic around the event on Saturday is horrendous? ...I was thinking of renting a scooter to circumvent the lines of cars trying to enter the event.

My interests are 1. walking the parking lots where the classic cars are 2. seeing the race cars in person 3. people watching 4. perhaps watching a race or two
I therefor am thinking a grandstand ticket might be a waste of a couple hundred bucks. Can one buy a ticket that allows access to the paddock areas so one can wonder around amongst the pits/gaarges?

Are anyone know of the little seaside towns in West Sussex? Any one town more "charming" than the next?

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

First of all, welcome to the party, Unc!

Goodwood is on lots of bucket lists. I'm sure some will chime in to offer ideas.

So - tell us about your British car interests...

Hey Mickey

I'm a 64 year old phart from the Wash DC area. Over the years I've had an MGB, an MGC, an MG ZB, three mini's and, most recently, a Reliant Robin. Had some Fiats and a Lancia. I went to the dark side for a while (French cars), but I am now in recovery looking for another Magnette.

Unc. Lived in Derwood and Potomac(for a spell) and family in Poolesville

Unc- Not to push you away from this forum (it is great!), but you might also want to try out something like the UK TR Register (don't know the MG equivalent but I'm sure there are several) - I know at least on the Triumph club site there are plenty of locals who would be happy to give you some thoughts on Goodwood.

Sounds like a great plan! I'm envious. I just checked their site and you can buy tickets online. I have a pretty clear recollection of reading somewhere that the tickets sell out early and that they only have a limited amount.

I have been to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but not the Revival.

You need tix in advance. You will also need to book hotels WAY in advance. Transportation was not too bad. Saturday is the main attraction for either event.

Chichester is a lovely area of Britain.
