I was thumbing through an old mag and came across this obscure pic. Can anyone identify it? Clue is it's a '54!

A Volvo?

Boy they don't call you Sherlock for nothin' eh?? I thought it might take a little longer than that!! They sure have come a long way since then! That was a 1954 Datsun De Luxe,
4cyl. 51.8 cu. in., 25 bhp L-head w/6.5:1 comp., 3 speed all-synchro tranny. It weighed 2033 lbs, had 6 volt elecs., had a top speed of 48 mph and got 28 mpg!! it cost $2600 in 1954! By comparison, a 1954 Chevy Bel Air sold for $2363.35 according to the same book (and it had a top speed of 87 mph)!

Almost as ugly as the 1979 Datsun 310GX I had when I was in college. Got it new!

It was really just a guess /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif I saw the right-hand-drive and it didn't look British so that was a start... Just had to narrow it down the company, and there weren't that many Japanese companies making cars back then... That's all, really...

My bet is that Datsun reverse engineered it from a Crosley. Crosley's what I thought of first, so I would have guessed wrong.
