Can these be fixed without a complete repaint?

ncbugeye is very pretty from about 10 feet away. But when you look more closely there are a few significant blemishes. Can anyone tell me if these can be fixed, or do I need to do the drastic job many of you guys have already done?

Pic 1 is a scratch just over 1" long at the top of the door, but it is about 1/10" wide and goes right down to the metal.

Pic 2 is also about 1" across, a flake off over a rust patch, and the PO just sprayed it with touchup paint.

Pic 3 is on the right panel behind the rear wheel, some quite large patches, also sprayed over.

Pic 4 is some scuffing on the top of the firewall just next to the screenwasher.

Pic 5 is a crack in the paint near the petrol filler cap with some evidence of lifting to either side of it, but no void as yet.

Most likely the car has received a sub standard paint job in the past. You can certainly do some spot repairs that will look better and last a few years. However, they will most likely be noticeable. If you are not worried about awards at shows, then this may be a good route to slow the rust and enjoy the car. Then when time/money allows you can strip the car and do repairs/paint.

What Trevor said!! Spot repair, done right can last a good while and will definitly help the bad spots from getting any worse! White is rather difficult to match perfectly due to yellowing, bleaching or fading to differing shades. A good body shop should be able to mix some touch-up for you to match the present color. If you are making the repairs yourself, you can apply the paint with commercially available aerosol spray-jar applicatores if you do not have spray equipment. A little practice and some patience and you can "fix the warts" until you are ready for that total re-paint!

Get a price from a couple of places and see what you get, think you just might be susprised, Dosn't look like a lot of work there at all.

there are some paint places that will use a hand held computer to scan your paint and can mix up a rattle can to give you the exact match

I would gamble that the car would need several replacement panels an a few patches if it were totally stripped. If you decide to repaint the whole car be sure you are ready to commit the needed resources (cash and time) to do it properly so that it can last 30+ years..

I went to a locally HIGHLY recommended guy and got what I think was a surprising answer, and I'm paraphrasing:

"This is a very small car and the blemishes are also very small. It doesn't make sense to fix them piecemeal. I suggest you get a can of more correct touchup paint, and repaint the flaws better that they currenly are, live with them for a while, and come back in a couple of years when you're ready to do the REAL down-to-the-bare-metal base and clear coat "wet" job that you know this car really deserves."
