Can someone please teach me to leave stuff dirty

Grease and dirt protect parts. Greasy parts ar lees likely to rust, the slide into place easier, (if you can hold on to them). Grease hides any imperfections in attempts to make the parts look better. Greasy parts are more in keeping with the true nature of our cars and should be awarded higher points at shows for originality. Grease lends a patina to your car that nothing else can.

There. Now if ya believe this load of crap you can have all the excuses ya need to be a slacker like me. :laugh:
 
I second the notion that grease and oil protect the car!

As a matter of fact, on the 71 Spit, the only parts that had NOT rusted through were the places where the leaking engine and tranny oil had coated the firewall, and tunnel mounts.

Of course this ruined the rubber transmission mounts...

Shiny-UP, greasy- DOWN.
 
I'm with you. On the TR3 restoration, it nearly makes sence to completly polish the underside of the upper spring pan (which can't ever be seen once the spring is installed) but I can't change oil in my TR6 without cleaning all the grit off the bottom of the oil pan, wiping down the transmission, cleaning the road grime off the front suspension... It takes me hours to change the oil on a daily driver, and I can't stop myself. If I'm like this with the TR6, what is it going to be like when I (eventually) finish the TR3?
