After many months of collecting parts and waiting for my block, crank and head to come back from the machine shop I am finally ready to start the engine build. My last thing I need to figure out is the Camshaft. I am not trying to build a hot street engine so sticking with a stock grind is fine. I would not going for a reground cam either as long as it is set up for mid range torque and not to rough at Idle.
I am using 87 mm pistons and converting the head to no lead but that is the extent of the upgrades, including a Marx rear seal. What are peoples preference for the cam. Can I use the old one? Obviously I would have to check its condition and I assume check the lobes to make sure they are in spec. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have purchased all new tappets and lifters and don't want to cheap out when it comes to the camshaft. I was interested in TSI's TR-torq cam but would also be ok with staying stock.
Thanks,
Derek
