I got the engine out of the car today. What I thought was a scribe line on the cam sprocket now looks to be a crack. I will remove the sprocket tomorrow to check further. There is a punch mark in the line of the suspected crack.
With the crank at what appears to be TDC the punch mark is about 10 degrees off from the center of the sprocket on the crank. Again, I will check further tomorrow.
I have a new cam sprocket and timing chain anyway. I just thought this was unusual.
