So I have never done this before, but I am thinking of pulling my cam out this weekend. Any tips/things to beware of?
BTW, I got my hands on a Hobrecht roll bar, just had it powder coated and will install it this weekend. Anyone know much about them? Just curious if its a nice vintage part or a pile of crap.

New cam = New Lifters and lots and lots of cam lube.

The roll bar fits under the hood, but makes storage of the hood stays tough. Use locktite on all fasteners that go through the body and reinforcing plates. Fitting carpet around the bar after installation is a creative adventure.

Good luck

Some items to aware of as you remove the cam. Remove cylinder head. Remember to have the engine turned upside down. Make sure you roll the cam 360 degrees through its rotation to push all lifters into their bores. Oil pan is removed. Make sure the oil pump drive "star" stays on the oil pump or if it falls out, you put it back in the end of the cam with some grease to hold in place. Number the lifters/keep in order. New cams require new lifters. Also use plenty of assembly lube on cam and on bearings in block. Make sure any new cam is properly timed into engine. Use good oil with plenty of ZDDP content. Keep rpms above 2000 for 10-15 minutes for proper cam/lifter bed in. May need a cooling fan in front of radiator.

Good Luck,
Mike

Thanks Mike. After thinking about it, and the money I spent on the trans, I need to pay that off and save up for a rebuild this winter. So I am going to bolt it together and just enjoy the spring weather while we have it

Yep to change a cam in 1275, you'd need new lifters and to get the lifter out, you gotta remove the oil pan, really something you want to do on a engine stand, not engine in the car.
