I have a feeling this has been asked before, but wasn't able to find it with a search...
I installed a new camshaft (goodparts gp2), and new cam and crankshaft timing gears.
As per Bentley, I turn the cam until valves 11 & 12 are "on the rock," presumably just as one starts to open and the other is just finishing closing.
Then when I install the cam gear such that the dot near the bolt hole of the gear lines up with the dot on the cam itself, the other dot/line on the cam gear is 180 degrees out of phase with the corresponding engine plate markings.
That is, when I rotate cam so 11 & 12 are on the rock, then line up the dots on the cam and cam gear and mount the gear to the cam, the dot/line is at about 1 o'clock when it should be at 7 o'clock to line up with the dot/line on the engine plate.
What am I missing?? Maybe it's just late, but how do I ensure I have the cam gear properly oriented to the cam shaft?
